Measurement Specialties has released a new, small, medium-compatible piezoresistive silicon pressure sensor. The company says the rugged 85BC is ideal for demanding applications including medical instruments, process control, freshwater and wastewater measurement, partial vacuum gas measurement, pressure transmitters and level systems. The 13mm sensor is designed for industrial applications that require compatibility with corrosive liquids and gases. There is no header. It is housed in a 316L stainless steel package that uses silicone oil to transfer pressure from the stainless steel diaphragm to the sensing element. The 85BC is available in a weldable package or a variety of standard threaded process fittings. These include 1/4 NPT, 1/8 NPT and 1/4 BSP, which can be easily integrated into modern equipment, and custom process accessories are available on request. The sensor uses a six-pad ceramic substrate that includes a laser trimming resistor to provide wide temperature compensation and offset correction. An external laser trimming gain setting resistor can be used to adjust the external differential amplifier and provide span interchangeability within ± 1% of a span of 75mV to 150mV. This low-cost sensor is ideal for applications that require precise pressure monitoring and control (such as medical infusion pumps). Its standard pressure range is 0-15psi to 0-300psi with a non-linearity of ± 0.3%. The sensor has a wide compensation temperature range of -20C to + 85C and a typical zero pressure output of 100 mV. The 85BC has an operating temperature range of -40C to + 125C and is available in absolute and specification formats.
