Diodes Incorporated has introduced the DMN61D8LVTQ dual-channel inductive load driver, which is designed for automotive inductive load switching applications such as windows, door latches and antenna relays, solenoids and small DC motors. The device's on-chip integrated Zener diode and bias resistor eliminate the need for multiple external components, saving cost and reducing PCB footprint. Inductive load switches usually require a free-wheeling diode to suppress voltage spikes that typically occur when the switch is turned off. The DMN61D8LVTQ inductive load driver avoids this requirement by using a low-side circuit configuration that uses a back-to-back Zener diode to provide active overvoltage drain clamping of the internal MOSFET. By ensuring that the clamping voltage is set below the avalanche breakdown voltage of the MOSFET, the MOSFET is also protected from potentially damaging transient voltages. Inputs that can be driven directly by standard logic devices, microcontrollers, and FPGAs simplify system design. These inputs have further ESD protection provided by the Zener stack. The rated drain-source voltage (VDS) of the MOSFET is 60V, and the maximum gate-source voltage (VGS) is ± 12V.
