Diodes Corporation introduces high-efficiency synchronous boost converters. The AP72250 provides boost conversion capability and is designed for compact consumer and industrial product applications including battery powered devices, USB power supplies, power banks, supercapacitor charging devices, and metering systems

The AP72250 supports 900kHz switching frequency and 20µA quiescent current (IQ), while covering a wide input voltage range of 0.6V to 5.5V, a minimum start-up voltage of 1V, and an output voltage range of 1.7V to 5.5V. The boost converter also incorporates 20mΩ high-side and 26mΩ low-side power MOSFETs. It is available in a WLCSP-12 package (1.75mm x 1.35mm x 0.45mm).

AP72250 can choose a variety of operation modes and can be programmed according to user needs. Modes include Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM), Ultrasonic (USM), and Forced Pulse Width Modulation (FPWM). Under heavy or light loads, engineers can select modes to adjust operation for maximum efficiency. As a result, up to 89% efficiency can be maintained even at light loads. With Ultrasonic Mode (USM), switching in the audible frequency range is prevented.

The AP72250 has excellent line and load transient response and can seamlessly transition between boost and pass-through modes in production applications where it is required. The AP72250's peak current-mode control mechanism enables it to handle a wide range of input and output ratios, thereby significantly reducing the number of external components required compared to other solutions in the industry, thereby reducing bill of materials (BOM) costs. Additional features include under-voltage lockout, thermal protection, peak current limit, negative current limit, and output short-circuit protection.
