OmniVision Group, the world's leading developer of semiconductor solutions for advanced digital imaging, analog, touch screen and display technologies, today released OVB0A - an ultra-small 200-megapixel image sensor with a pixel size of only 0.56 microns. The OVB0A is designed for the rear (wide-angle) main camera of high-end smartphones. With a unique 16-in-1 pixel binning function, the OVB0A is able to provide excellent low-light performance. In addition, the image sensor features 100% Quad Phase Detection (QPD) for fast and precise autofocus.

Arun Jayaseelan, Senior Product Marketing Manager of OmniVision Group, said: "Although the OVB0A image sensor has a smaller chip size, its high performance has not been compromised. In fact, the OVB0A's 0.56-micron pixel is not only the world's first smaller than the red wavelength of light. pixel, its QPD and Quantum Efficiency (QE) performance reaches the level of the previous generation 0.61 micron pixel. With OmniVision's PureCel® Plus-S wafer stacking technology, we can maintain extremely high resolution, packing 200 million pixels into a 1/1.4-inch optical structure.”

The selective conversion gain of the OVB0A sensor achieves the best balance between low-light image quality and high dynamic range (HDR), allowing smartphone manufacturers to optimize HDR performance for contrasting bright and dark areas in any scene. The image sensor also utilizes 16-in-1 pixel binning for 12.5-megapixel/4K premium video capture at 120 frames per second. It shoots 12.5-megapixel/4K video at 60 fps and offers a double-exposure interleaved HDR timing option. The on-chip pixel restoration algorithm enables 12.5-megapixel 8K video and 2x crop zoom (with HDR).

The OVB0A image sensor supports CPHY, DPHY and dual DOVDD (1.8V and 1.2V). Samples will be available in the fourth quarter of 2022.
