Vishay has expanded its optoelectronics product portfolio with two new SurfLight high-speed infrared (IR) emitting diodes in a compact 3.2mm x 1.6mm x 1.1mm surface-mount top-view package. The 850nm VSMY12850 and 940nm VSMY12940 are based on proprietary GaAIAs surface emitter chip technology, combining high radiation intensity and optical power with fast switching time. The infrared emitter is provided in a colorless transparent PCB package with an internal lens for surface mounting. VSMY12850 and VSMY12940 have a lower profile than devices equipped with dome mirrors or PLCC-2 packages, providing powerful infrared illumination in space-constrained end products. When used with Vishay's VCNL sensor series, these transmitters are optimized for proximity and gesture applications for 3D gaming consoles and IR touch screens, wake-up functions, light switches, photo interrupters, and IR transmitters. VSMY12850 and VSMY12940 provide extremely high radiation intensity up to 16mW / sr at a low driving current of 70mA, a fast switching time of 10 ns and a forward voltage of 1.6V. The device is suitable for operation to 1A at a high pulse current of 100µs, has a half-intensity angle of ± 40 degrees, and operates over a temperature range of -40C to + 85C. According to the regulations of J-STD-020, the IR sensitivity of the IR transmitter is 3, and the service life is 168 hours. The company said the devices are RoHS compliant and halogen-free.
