Xsens has expanded its successful fourth-generation MTi product portfolio by releasing a series of complete, self-contained 3D IMU / VRU / AHRS motion tracking modules for high-volume industrial and consumer applications.
The low-cost MTi 1 series motion trackers use the latest advanced sensor fusion technology and miniature MEMS technology. The MTi 1 series is individually calibrated and tested to minimize implementation effort, and its roll and pitch dynamic accuracy is 1 degree RMS, making it the most accurate 3D motion tracker in its class.
The communication protocols and APIs are the same throughout the Xsens product portfolio. Simplifies the integration of low cost MTi 1 series, de facto industry standard MTi 10 series and high performance MTi 100 series. Designers can choose from the widest range of high-performance 3D motion trackers and choose the Xsens motion tracker that fits their design, while reusing proven drivers and application code from other projects, greatly reducing engineering time and risk.
The MTi 1 series is a 12mm x 12m x 2.5mm PLCC28 compatible module that can output direction, acceleration, rotation rate and magnetic field from its I2C, SPI or UART interface. Advanced and powerful signal processing pipelines, along with proven XKF3 sensor fusion algorithms, ensure unparalleled performance in many applications, including robotics, agriculture, heavy machinery, handheld laser scanners and drones. The on-board processing of this module reduces the load on the application processor, thereby reducing the overall power consumption of the end system, while the power consumption is less than 45mW. The company said that the MTi 1 series is CE and FCC certified.
The development kit is available now and includes a license for the MTi-line SDK. System designers can also find sample code that includes drivers designed by Xsens on the ARM developer's website, where Xsens regularly updates its drivers and software libraries.
